Seeking Tranquility?

We just added a wonderful cabin to our vacation rental program named "Tranquility Vista".  This 3200 square foot  (3 Bedroom/3 Bath) custom log home built by Appalachian Custom Homes was featured in Blue Ridge Country Magazine.

Let the beautiful southern views of the mountains take you away.  Whether you are inside preparing a meal in the fully stocked kitchen while conversing with family in the open living area, or outside on the deck soaking in the peace and quiet, you will be impressed with your surroundings.  This home is ideal for taking in the morning sun, barbequeing on the spacious deck, lounging with a book, soaking in the outdoor hot tub, or just relaxing inside and enjoying the comfortable interior.

Check out more info on this home (and others) on our website at www.smokymtngetaways.net

Fall is in the Air

The tempertures are getting cooler and there's a feeling in the air around the Smoky Mountains that fall is fast approaching.  Personally, I cannot wait until the leaves start to change (it's my favorite time of year).  Here's a great link about the color to expect this season:  Fall Colors Should be Excellent This Year!

There are so many activities to do after the summer season.  One of my favorites is to take a day trip to Cataloochee and see the elk.  This is such a popular spot during the summer and I welcome the slower traffic during the fall.

Cataloochee holds a special place in my heart (as cheesy as that sounds).  My family has been camping there for over 40 years and I have some amazing childhood memories that were created during these trips.  Honestly, the park has changed since the elk were introduced (there are a lot more people and you can NEVER seem to get a camping spot).  Even with this being said, the park is a must-see for anyone visiting the area.  Hopefully you will find it as special as I do.

Calling all Fishermen

Jackson County is home to the first and only fly fishing trail in the United States.  The county features some of the best fly fishing in all of the Smoky Mountains.  The trail takes you to 15 spots where you are likely to catch brook, brown and rainbow trout.

One of the most popular spots is the delayed harvest section of the Tuckasegee River.  There are over 49,000 trout stocked within a 6 miles radius on an annual basis.  Smoky Mountain Getaways offers many cabins along this stretch of river.  Visit our website www.smokymtngetaways.net to inquire!

Below is a great video spotlighting the fly fishing trail.  Alex Bell runs AB's Fly Fishing Guide Service and is highly recommended.

Let's Give This A Shot

Hello Everyone!  I'm starting this blog to keep you posted on things going on here in Western North Carolina and with Smoky Mountain Getaways.  I'm not always the best at keeping these things up to date (just ask anyone who's seen our Facebook page) but I'm giving it a shot.

We've just finished a chaotic (but successful) summer season and are now looking towards Fall.  I have been receiving questions regarding the dates of football games at Western Carolina University.  Here's their schedule:

Homecoming is October 22nd.  There are very few cabins still available in the Cullowhee/Sylva/Dillsboro areas.  Contact us today to get yours reserved!

If you haven't already, please check out our website at www.smokymtngetaways.net
